The "Amatius" or purification is a purifying bath for the body and, especially, at the head of the initiate. It is prepared by the chief with a minimum of seven different herbs (relating to Orixás) harvested according to lunar phases and quality.
The ceremony, performed only in the period from new moon to crescent, is individual. Can be done either in the temple as in a meadow, at the discretion of the Warden. The rite of purification is made seven, fourteen or twenty days after the obligation to Exu.
The water used in this rite comes from rain or the rising of the rivers, free from impurities or chemical additives.
The vessel to contain the "Amatius" should be preferably earthenware.
Herbs are soaked with his hands and left to stand in water for twenty-four hours. Then be "awakened" and are used ritually to the songs for - or orixas caboclo the house first.
Every year the initiative will promote, on its own, its purification, using mainly the grasses favored by his "orixá head." Obligation, the Amatius devotion becomes a year, always with the aim of strengthening spiritually.
Women can not receive the Amatius during the menstrual period.
