BASIC is a family of programming languages. It was originally designed as a teaching tool, has spread among home microcomputers in the 1980's and remains popular today in many dialects rather than the original.
BASIC stands for Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code [1] (in English 'code of general-purpose symbolic instruction for beginners') and is linked to the name of an unpublished work of the co-inventor of language, Thomas Kurtz (the name is not related to the number of CK Ogden, Basic Inglés).
